Trauma Recovery

You Can Name the Abuse. Naming the Absence Is Harder.

You can point to the “abuse.”

What’s far harder to name is the absence: the support that wasn’t there, the emotional presence that never showed up.

By the time you look for help, you still don’t have a word for it.

You’re highly responsible, hypervigilant, perfectionistic, people-pleasing, exhausted, defeated, and the list goes on.

This is your “normal.”

Then Your Breaking Point Arrives

Usually the breaking point is the loss of an important relationship, or a major life change: becoming a parent, a job change, family conflict, a death, or a new trauma with nowhere to go.

You come in for that.

And you uncover that your “normal” has been costing you: anxiety, self-doubt, a lack of confidence, unbalanced relationships, and unending self-evaluation and criticism.

Your “Normal” Has a History

Complex trauma, sometimes called C-PTSD, grows out of childhood emotional neglect, physical or sexual abuse, and verbal or emotional abuse.

Watching every room, taking responsibility for everyone, never letting anyone down: these were the best answers you had for the home you grew up in.

They kept you going then.

Now they run on their own, and they’re wearing you down.

Get to the Root of the Matter

My approach is person-centered, combined with a psychodynamic lens, DBT skills, and Brainspotting.

Together, we’ll get to the root of the matter and name the patterns built around it.

The psychodynamic lens means we look at where a pattern came from, not only at what it does to you now.

DBT gives you practical skills for intense emotion, the kind you can use in the middle of a bad afternoon.

Brainspotting is a flexible, neuroscience-based tool that brings regulation to the emotion and reflex areas of your brain, reaching what talking alone can’t.

Build Skill, Then Move the Triggers

We’ll identify how your “normal” has shaped your nervous system and your behavior patterns.

Then we build skill, and we move the emotionally loaded triggers into memories that no longer debilitate you.

This is deep, unhurried work, and progress arrives as a series of small breakthroughs rather than one big one.

You Know Something Has to Change

Not knowing exactly what you need is fine.

You know you want to feel better, and something has to change.

The hypervigilance eases.

The self-criticism loses its megaphone.

You respond instead of react, and you can hold a limit without a week of second-guessing yourself.

On the other side is freedom, confidence and peace.
