Brainspotting

You’ve Been Through This a Thousand Times

You’re smart and resourceful, and you’ve tried a lot of things.

Self-help. Talk therapy. Medication.

You can explain it to yourself again and again.

You’ve tried all the things, and you still don’t FEEL different.

Still jumpy. Still anticipating the worst.

Still reacting, and still that sinking feeling in your gut.

Here we are AGAIN.

Will This Ever Change?

You’ve learned a lot about your story and your reactions.

You keep finding yourself in the same old patterns, even when you thought you’d steered clear of them.

Still over-extending yourself.

Still saying “yes” when your body feels “no.”

Still striving, still looking for approval.

Still surrounded, and still alone.

You can know a pattern by heart and get pulled into it anyway.

The reaction runs from a deeper part of your brain than the part that does the explaining.

Meet Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a brain, body, and relational therapy built on one idea: “where you look affects how you feel.”

It sounds silly, and maybe a little “out there.”

The reality is, your eyes are an extension of your brain.

Processing emotion in the deeper parts of your brain moves you from an unregulated state to a more balanced one.

Your nervous system gets to settle.

Because the work happens where the reaction lives, change doesn’t have to wait on more talking.

I’m certified in Brainspotting, and since 2021 I’ve been an approved Brainspotting Consultant, which means I also provide consultation to other therapists training in it.

If you’ve been researching, you’ve probably run into EMDR first.

Why Not EMDR?

EMDR is a valuable, effective approach to recovering from trauma. No hate here.

Brainspotting was discovered by David Grand, a therapist who was adapting EMDR to respond to what his clients needed.

The two are not the same.

Brainspotting is a “no assumptions” model.

It follows what your nervous system needs.

There are dozens of ways to find a brainspot.

Therapists and clients who’ve tried both report that Brainspotting is more accommodating and adaptable.

You lead the process, instead of being held to a protocol or a set structure.

You Could “Just Be”

The outcome?

Less jumpy, less dread, and less hypervigilance.

Reactions you can manage.

The sinking feeling in your gut eases, and your “yes” starts to match what your body actually feels.

Imagine how different life could be if you didn’t have to work around all of these obstacles.

You could “just be.”

What Are You Waiting For?
